Aboot

What if you needed a Content Management System, but you were too lazy to write one? This site is styled from a style sheet, contains no javascript, and is designed to load quickly over whatever slow connection I have at the moment. This site is a family project. Maybe someday, it will grow into a clever site that you will want to download. Check back later.

This site started as simply a page of my private links -- a sort of bookmarks page. It contained links to many of the sites I visit on a regular basis. I can now use these links from wherever I happen to be in the world. The ESL page is very old. Some of the links may not work. Someday I may update it or delete it. KPLU is my favorite jazz station in the Seattle area. If you listen to them and like them, send them money. The TUNES page is a demonstration of how sweet MIDI files can be. If you download them, you can make a playlist for your media player.

Progress: This PHP software now creates the navigation menu by looking for data files and creating an entry for each one. This took almost two days because I am learning PHP.

Progress: The page is now served by only one php page: "index.php". The pages sent to your browser are selected using the menu and are passed to the index.php page. Yeehah! I am using this page to prototype a Content Management System (CMS) for general use. The concept is simplicity. There are many heavily-themed CMS sites out there. With this (as yet unnamed) one I can easily change the text color and style, as well as the background color over the whole site, with a mere snap of my fingers. My PHP is getting better.
But you don't care ;)

Progress: The prototype site (not here) now has a built-in editor to change the configuration of the pages. The background color, the text color, the font size and the font style are configurable by editing a simple file in an online editor. It has never been my intent to create a "themeable" CMS. That has already been done very well by many others. What you see here is light and simple and above all, content oriented. I prefer the orange text on the black background because it is easy on the eye, though I may change the scheme from time to time. This site consists of a pager file and a style sheet plus a collection of content files in a folder. To add a page to the site, one merely needs to add a content page to the content folder. The pager will automatically add a new entry to the menu. The content pages are html formatted but they do not have head, body or html tags. They could easily become wiki pages. Hmmm.
